Re: Eldritch Storm

The problem with Eldritch is (not sure if this was fixed) it occasionally pretty much vaporizes targets, like a full hp Sternguard squad, with one bolt. For all-round utility, I agree it is probably the strongest nuke. However it's not quite as simple to manage the other ones as you make out. The Sp...

Re: Total War Warhammer trailer !!!

I'm not really a fanboy, but I'm sold for this game.

For the first time like ever, a Warhammer game is gonna get the highest production values available for a strategy game.

Plus if Warhammer Total War is wildly successful it would set the precedent for more Warhammer/40K based games, *cough* DOW 3.

Re: Buff to Nurgle Worship (again?)

Tics are a nightmare to try to level up, you basically need grenade launchers or combos with your hero (globals) to make it happen with any kind of regularity.

Then again, I'm biased because I always leave a 1-model Nurgle tic worshipping in base.

Re: Base Nukes

-50% damage to infantry in base makes the nuke a precision weapon for finishing off low-hp squads in particular. If I get nuked in base that's fair play. If you're a good WSE player you're basically not frightened of nukes, in or out of base, though. I was in a game where a teammate of mine was nuke...

Re: Patch 2.3.1 (Tentative balance changelog preview)

There's a new Tyranid skin. I suggest a short public beta before the release. The problem with a "short public beta" is the release always ends up getting pushed back, that's just the nature of having 1 guy in charge of organising everything unfortunately. Also beta patches are for testing...

The Sound Bug. Tyranid obviously, it's a bug after all. 1 ability: Shit I have sound bug. Makes opponents write: "Shit I have sound bug", often followed by "Sorry guys" and/or "Fucks sake". Causes opponents game to crash after about a minute and so you win, assuming you...

Re: Chaos Build orders?

In team games vs IG imo, as someone new to Chaos, your safest bet is with the PC. He lets you compete in the war of attrition with IG and it's a real bitch for the IG to dig your PC+CSM out of heavy cover. Personally I like to go CSM->Havoc->Raptor. You can upgrade the PC for 25 power to get a Bile ...

Re: Organiser wanted for team based tournaments!

Oh don't worry the purists prefer 1v1, and I'm not gonna insult that because I'm kinda one of 'em. I have a personal preference for 2v2 though, and larger gamemodes generally encourage more people to play. Skill still comes through of course, and it's not as easily avoided like by playing PC in 3v3 ...

I'm down. Off the top of my head there's few other similar changes if possible:

Carnifex Venom Cannon -> Heavy Venom Cannon
Carnifex Barbed Strangler -> Stranglethorn Cannon

I'm sure people more in touch with tabletop can offer further name updates.

Re: Scuttling Webway Gates

Webway Gates are very powerful. If you're going to use them with setups then use them properly and don't enter while setup. Yes occasionally you might bleed a model or lose the team with that extra time, but that's the risk you run with such a great weapon as gates, and FWIW I've never seen a team d...

Late reply - I'm totally down for bigger tournaments, and I think a lot of people are too. Like I've said before, there's more potential for upsets and some pretty wack team combinations come out.

Re: Rav alpha Catalyst needs to be adjusted due to certain u

On topic: Catalyst seems fine whenever I've used it, although with Zoanthropes absorbing the damage with their shield it can get a little out of control. So yes they overperform with Catalyst.

Using it on synapse creatures is risky, if you can make it work props to you.

Re: Rav alpha Catalyst needs to be adjusted due to certain u

I think the problem lies more in zoans than catalyst. Zoans are still ridiculous. Way too versatile. The Zoanthrope is a beast of a unit. Low upkeep, pop and long range with no setup - it's the ultimate glasscannon unit and Tyranids, despite the hp reductions, are still one of the best at protectin...

Re: Buff to Nurgle Worship (again?)

The PC can offer a nice supplementary repair but, like with the TM, I don't think that's his best use in combat. And while Nurgle worship does give extra field presence in between fights, it is most useful in those cover-to-cover firefights so common in 2v2 and 3v3. My opinion, having mained the PC ...

Re: Adding a slow to Mindwar.

Generally yes, Mind War is a sub-optimal choice vs suppression-immune commanders.

However it can still have its uses in those MUs, but acts more as a utility/supplementary wargear than a hard counter to the hero, for the reasons mentioned by Torpid.

Its well balanced atm.

Re: How are terminators balanced wrt nobs?

Nobz are the most power-expensive unit in the game when fully upgraded. Actually up until a few patches ago I thought they weren't cost-efficient at all, esp. compared to kommandos or a battlewagon. Yes, Nobz should tear shit up when they get into melee because they are a melee superiority unit coun...

Re: Using spotter shells into the fog of war

A key point being missed is that taking damage in the FoW reveals you. Hence suppression teams can keep firing up to their max range at a targeted squad even though it's out of sight range, because they are taking damage and so are revealed; a hit from a plasma cannon reveals the squad shot at, etc....

Re: Nerfs and changes for Nids.

Nids are in a very curious position against setup teams, and is why Zoanthropes can be so monstrously good against certain compositions. Tyranids in T1 struggle vs layered setup teams, with Raveners the obvious solution but they are often a sub-optimal choice in comparison with warriors. Getting the...

Re: Patch 2.3.1 (Tentative balance changelog preview)

Suggestions for this patch, based on recent play with the Farseer: Runes of Reaping This is intended to maximise her support ability use, however a 25% cd reduction and 0.1 energy regen just means that the Farseer is a little more consistent in having her abilities ready for back-to-back engagements...

The problem with changing it to suppression is it basically becomes a powered-up Doomblast. OK in theory but copycat abilities are usually avoided. Damage alone would be sufficient, and even that could be toned down a bit. It is fairly nuts vs. light infantry atm. The thing is that Mek and Knob both...

In a nutshell, there's one repair squad per race and that's the starting unit. This has always been the case and it seems unlikely to change.

Banshees are annoying as fuck let's face it. Which makes it very difficult to analyse their performance without big exaggerations on all sides (I know I've done it in the past ;) ). If your IST are too squishy, you buy a rhino, which is a fully functional and effective unit when used properly. Alternatively, buy the Blessed Aegis, naht Canticle, and try to damage-sponge more with the BC. IST Sarge unfortunately is just not worth it for 25 power, even with the grenade. I agree i...
