MRT 20 on Saturday, Nov 28th @18:00 GMT

Postby Atlas » Mon 16 Nov, 2015 8:22 pm

Preamble:
It's been very interesting to see how all my organizer brothers have approached setting up tournaments. But I think my sabbatical is over and it's time to get back into the groove.

We were initially planning to do a Championship-Level tournament at the end of November, but real life circumstances has made that too difficult to assure. Instead, we'll go with the "standard" 1v1 MRT tournament. December is still something we're looking into, but my gut is telling me that doing anything too elaborate on the most busiest time of the year would be difficult. We'll see.

As a last note, should the 2.5 patch be ready to go by the time of the tournament we will be using the 2.5 patch for this tournament with the only exception being of vast gamebreaking bugs.

General Info:
The complete set of information including Brackets and Participants are listed in the [Link Pending]

Date:Monthly Rumble Tournament #20 will be held on Saturday, November 28th.
Time: 17:00 UTC

The tournament will be played in the 1v1 format.
The tournament will be welcome to All Skill Levels.
The tournament will be played on the 2.4.2 patch.

Rules:
It's going to be a single elimination tournament and we'll play as many signups as possible.
Refer to the general rules thread for an overview.

Map Picks
Maps are always selected before hero picks.

The first match of a round will always be a fixed map as shown in the brackets. After this, the map pick will be the loser's choice. Only maps in the map pool may be played to be considered a valid tournament match.

No map can be played more than once within a round. Each player will have the option to veto a single map during a round, excluding the first match map. Maps that are variants of other maps, such as Pale Tooth Gorge and Green Tooth Gorge, will count as one map and can't be selected in the same round.

Hero Picks

The player on the top side of the bracket cell will lock in their hero first for the first match. Next game, the player on the bottom side of the bracket cell will lock in their opponent's hero first, and the order will alternate like this until the final game. In the final game of the round, the loser of the previous match will pick the map and then their hero first.

To check out who is on the top and bottom of your bracket cell, just look at the Brackets page. If your name is in the blue bar, you're the top of the bracket. If it's in the red bar, you're the bottom of the bracket.

1v1 Map Pool:
  • Ashes of Typhon
  • Calderis Refinery
  • Fedrid Folly
  • Green Tooth Gorge
  • Green Tooth Jungle Redux - Fixed Version
  • Imperial Plaza
  • Jarilo's Forge
  • Judgment of Carrion
  • Leviathan Hive
  • Lugganath Glacier
  • Outer Reaches
  • Quest's Heresy
  • Siwal Frontier

Prizes:
Two Steam games of choice from the Vault to the Champion.
One Steam game for the Runner Up.

Ahem...

Lugganath Glacier
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

Make Lugganath Glacier the first map of round 1 or I'm out.

Count me in as a caster.
Also, I agree with Toilailees idea. I want to see more matches on that map. The only time we ever saw that map was in the MU Riku vs Paperbag and Paper RQed/DCed, so the match was cut short.

That's Thanksgiving weekend here in Gods Favorite Country. I'm going to be at my parents house all weekend. There's like a 50% chance I can weasel my way into dodging social obligations for a few hours, and a 25% chance their shitty computer can handle DoW2. I'll test it out when I arrive.

So, I think that puts me at 12.5% in?

Inq, LC and LG if I can make it. Unless 2.5 ships with the current changelist, then I'll swap to BC to demonstrate why I think Ops need more nerfs ;)

I'd be willing to swap the time around. As is, the tourney is right between Thanksgiving, Black Friday and "Cyber Monday" (<- whatever tf that is).

As for Lugganath, if you REALLY insist :P

I doubt there is going to be a "good" time to play in the next two months ;) 18 GMT (noonish for me) is the best shot for Saturday. I'm back home on Sunday, so I could do any time on the 29th.

You could setup a Doodle poll or something to see what days interested people can play? I dunno, whatever works best for you. Any work done to make MRT's happen is already an unpaid labor of love, so I don't wanna complain!

At first I was on the fence about this but as soon as you mentioned cookies you've sold me!

Now, to afford the 2000 dollar plane ticket for a game that reaps 0 comparative financial reward.

Alright the new site format has kinda screwed up the tournament sections, so I'll let you know when I've got a working bracket!

If the player count is small (max. 16) you can use BracketNinja free version. It's pretty slick, player avatars and all. I will try to get an internal bracket system back up, but I don't know if I can manage it in time, I'm still at work.

Using Lulgrim's suggestion, here's a bracket for you guys to use! http://dawnofwar.info/codex.php?page=to ... ts/MRT-20b

This is more of a plug for our site more than anything, but if you are having a hard time picking a map, you can always use dawnofwar.info 's Map Picker tool! The "Monthly Rumble" setting currently isn't 100% correct, so if you just select all the MRT maps in the map pool and use "Selected" for now, it'll work great!

In order to learn the first map of the series, just click on your cell. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it is what it is.
